People were not able to reap any crops, if they did they had "very low yeild". Lesotho would be in a middle of a drought than there would be a heavy amount of rain, destroying the crops. The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) has stepped in to initiate a program to help farmers in Lesotho learn new farming technologies and methods to help conserve the argiculture. "Conservation agriculture involves farmers digging basins around planting areas and filling the holes with manure and fertiliser." Thoughts- I think this is a very important program. Lesotho gets most of its food from farming; with yields in such low numbers, the people of Lesotho are starving. It's nice that someone (or something) stepped in to help conserve their land, improve their farming techniques and help feed the country. Cultural Tie In- The agricultural society is what feeds Lesotho and its people. With dying soil, how are the epeople to eat and survive? |
